"Thoughts on Women, by a Celebrated Writer"


Page from Microfilm of The Ladies' Magazine 1792.  This was published just five years before The Female Review was published.  As you can see from the excerpt below, it was a common belief that women could not write.  This was mostly due to the fact that women were not taught to write in schools because it was considered unnecessary.  However, many people began to call for better education of women.  Herman Mann was a proponent of women's education, which is also evident in The Female Review.
