I am positive my subconscious mind is working on overtime at night to build my seminar paper on Deborah Sampson.
I woke up this morning and remembered a strange dream:
I drove down an empty highway while dark looming clouds absorbed the horizon. Then, a neon yellow road sign came into view and expanded to fill my sight. It read in giant letters, “Caution: Women Working.” For a second, I wondered, “Don’t those construction signs usually say “Men Working?” I realized the sign said what it was supposed to and it had been wrong before, when it featured men, because women were on the side of the road working in neon construction vests and hardhats.
I guess all of the feminist critical theory I have been reading has reached my subconscious.
Until next time, keep your musket handy.
